Microsoft's Windows Media Player and its DRM cabilities creates a "channel" that traditional media can comfortably release their programming. DRM solves many of the copyright problems. Solving the copyright problem solves the distribution on the internet problem. The copyright problem is much more than the producer of the film or TV show. It is the music, the actors, the script, and the advertisers within the film. Also, DRM gives traditional media a way to monetize with advertising the viewing of the shows. When a TV show is released on YouTube any embedded advertising the film is given away for free. In otherwords, because there is no accounting for the impressions made on the advertisement, the film's producers do not receive compensation for the advertisement. With DRM, Adobe knows that it can be the #2 to Microsoft WMP and being #2 is not a bad position to be in.
